The Carnegie Museum of Natural History is a leading institution in the country and one of the four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This venue features a range of exhibits containing natural history treasures including artifacts, objects, and scientific specimens. Some of these are located within the Hillman Hall of Minerals and Gems. The museum presents the Carnegie Mineralogical Award to honor individuals and groups who champion the preservation, conservation, and education of mineralogical wonders.

Established in 1987 through the support of The Hillman Foundation, the Carnegie Mineralogical Award recognizes outstanding contributions that align with the museum’s mission to advance knowledge and appreciation of the earth’s geological history. The award is presented to recipients each year in February at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. Recipients are given a bronze medallion, a certificate of recognition, and a $3,000 cash prize.

Mineral enthusiasts, educators, curators, mineral clubs, societies, museums, universities, and publications are invited to nominate individuals or groups whose endeavors support mineralogical preservation and education. Nominations are due by November 15 and can be submitted on the organization’s website.
