An alumnus of Rice University and Concordia University, Joel A. Bartsch has worked as a museum executive for more than three decades and leverages that experience to serve as president and CEO of the Houston Museum of Natural Science (HMNS). During his career, Joel A. Bartsch has also worked as a museum curator.
Most of the information curators present about an object will be uploaded to the museum's website to give visitors some knowledge about the artifact or item before visiting the gallery or museum to see it in person. To provide this information, they will have to conduct research. In most cases, the study will require collaboration with colleagues in education, architecture, and conservation.
Part of the duties of curators involves buying exhibits with the museum funds, restoring artifacts, organizing loans, and answering inquiries. Curators also raise funds for museums through grants. To ensure that the museum employs competent skills, curators interview and hire staff. They may also organize training programs for employees.
